ASTEC was conceived in 1999 by its founding chairman, Jun Atienza, who saw the need to have an alternative organization to improve tennis playing standards. Original supporters of the initiative were Rhodel Rina, Romy Capito, Alex Pena, Bong Tipon, Nildo Tan, Joey Asis, Louie Bautista, Acmad Sani, Gary Bautro, Jun Tomas, and a lot more. Immediately after convening the first set of ASTEC Officers, its first major tournament was launched in March 2000, dubbed “The New Millennium Tennis Classic”, with MOBIL as Major Sponsors.
Today ASTEC has become a byword among tennis players and enthusiasts in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia, as it has successfully staged highly organized major tournaments year after year The success of ASTEC was made possible through the harmonious relationship cultivated among its officers, past and present, as well as its partnership with the rest of the individual tennis clubs in Jeddah.
